The Australia Institute surveyed a nationally representative sample of 1,459 Australians about which current and former Ministers they had heard of.

In the November 2018 poll, despite no longer a Minister, more Australians still recognise Julie Bishop (82%) than current Prime Minister Scott Morrison (75%).

“The Australia Institute has been polling ministerial recognition since 2016 and it is no surprise that former Deputy Prime Minister Julie Bishop has always ranked highly,” said Ben Oquist, Executive Director of The Australia Institute.

“However, despite Julie Bishop no longer being a Minister, more people still recognise Ms Bishop than they do the current Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

“Christopher Pyne has consistently ranked among the recognised Ministers in the Coalition Government, although his recognition is slowly declining.

“Scott Morrison’s recognition had been declining over most of this term, but has increased sharply since becoming Prime Minister.

“Meanwhile, Peter Dutton is the Minster whose recognition has increased the most over the last 2 and half years.

“The latest poll shows the minsters with the lowest recognition are Angus Taylor, Daniel Tehan, Paul Fletcher, Karen Andrews, Darren Chester, and Bridget McKenzie.

“Overall, Minister recognition increased dramatically with the age of those polled, with those over 65 years old recognising three times as many ministers on average as those 18-24 years old.”
